Aldrayon is a high fantasy world filled with magic, unique languages and cultures, and various fantasy creatures, plants, metals, and even gemstones. It is enriched and brought to life through the narratives of diverse and complex characters
The orb of Aldrayon is vastly different that that of planet Earth, both in physical geography and social customs. Much of what we are accustomed to in the real world doesn’t easily translate over to Aldrayon.
To truly appreciate Aldrayon, means to acknowledge its differences whilst reading. Remember that at the beginning of The Garnet Crown, Zaldyan is already in power and evil reigns, though he has not yet won the war and achieved total power.
Listed below are some of the ways that Aldrayon and Earth differ:
Social differences:
- Social class creates hierarchy among people (under the reign of the shadow-sorcerer Zaldyan).
- Use of metals and innovations creates hierarchy amongst kingdoms (again, under Zaldyan’s reign).
- There are three sexes.
- Races are not based on skin colour. Instead, they are based on magic clans (hereditary) and clans of deities (divinity).
- Culture is based on clan practices and seasons.

I loved the trans rep, I loved how it felt like a more dungeons and dragons kind of fantasy. I read this as an eBook, but I will definitely be needed a paperback copy too because I know i’m going to want to read it again!
